There really is a bothersome sentiment in someone that is a copy cat. As much as you try to shake it off that it doesn't matter or that it doesn't bother you, that's not entirely true. Deep down inside, you just want to tell that copy cat to get their own personality!!
I've noticed that copy caters tend to look to someone that is doing something that they want to do. Most of the time, they wished they came up with the idea. They tend to "leech" to someone's life and their success and try to copy the same things to see if it works for them. The problem wouldn't be that they actually copied someone but these copy catter's problem is that they don't give credit to the originator of the very thing they are doing. What they do is make it seem as if they came up with it all on their own so that they can receive credit and in doing so, get praises from people in their surroundings. That's the most disturbing aspect of a copy cat.
Haven't you ever shared an idea, comment or dream with someone and the next thing you know, they are pursuing the very thing you discussed with them. If you ever come face to face with these types of people, they will act as if nothing happened and will speak about the subject as if they received the revelation from God. Never ever admitting to you that you were the one that actually told them about the idea in the first place. This copy cat syndrome have broken relationships, friendships and have ruined many lives of many people, never acknowledging that they themselves are at fault. You might say, I don't care who copies me, I am fine, the bible says we need to imitate Christ. Good point. The Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 11:1 "Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ". I know what you are thinking. It really isn't the same thing. Let me explain. A copy is defined as a replica of the original source. It looks like the original from afar but when you get close enough to inspect it, you realize that it's not. It's like a watch that is sold to you as a gold masterpiece watch. As time passes, you see that the color of the bands began to wear off and the more you wear it, the worse it gets. As your body perspire, your wrist gets green because it's not the real deal, just a copy of the original. Eventually you end up throwing it away because you have discovered that you have been duped and the watch is actually a fake. Well, that's how copy catters are. At first they appear legit. You can't figure out who they are but as time goes on, their true colors begin wearing off. Beneath their superficial shine, you have a person that has had this syndrome all their life because that's all they know how to do to get what they want out of life.
That's not what Paul said. He said, be imitators. In order words, to follow as an example, or to model. He was saying, follow as I do. I'm an example to you. When you imitate someone, you mimic what they do. You understand that the person is an example to you in certain areas. That you can model that life so that you can better yours. There are certain things that you have to understand about imitation. You have to understand that you keep being you! But the "you" is under modifications and adjustments. A copy cat will copy you so much, they "try" to be YOU!! Second, when you imitate someone, you are saying to that person, I understand you have more knowledge than I do so therefore I want to do as you do so that I can get where you are at. That takes humbleness. To imitate someone is to make yourself humble. Humble enough to be taught, to be corrected, to be aligned and to be positioned. That's why Paul said, BE! Be is an action verb. You have to make yourself to go down so that someone can life you up in whatever is needed to be lifted up. It takes courage. It takes a BIG man and a BIG woman to be imitators and recognize their authority. Paul said of me as I am of Christ. If Christ is in the equation, then having your own identity, humbleness and courage is all part of the plan.
The copy cat syndrome is prideful. An imitator is humble. A cop cat will never admit that they needed someone to get where they are at, but an imitator have role models and mentors that have pushed them into their destiny. A copy cat is a coward, hide behind the scenes and will betray whoever stands in their way. While an imitator has courage to stand up and say, "help me", "teach me" and "show me", "I will follow you." My friend, understand that helping others get to their goal, will help you get to your goal. Bottom line is that all this is for the glory of God. The copy catters will eventually fade out and fake out while you being Christ like will leave a legacy that being like Christ was the best path you could have ever chosen.
